About IRB Developments

Unlike a lot of companies within our market, we have a proper engineering background as well as being a true enthusiast of the brand.

With just under 20 years of employment within Powertrain Development for JLR – as the owner of IRB – I have quite a specialised skill set developed from working within a large number of areas/disciplines including prototype Engine Build, Engine Test, Fabrication, Vehicle Workshops, Emissions Test and my last role as a Senior Engineer within Emissions Certification and Compliance.

After leaving JLR, what had started as a hobby has now developed into a full time business.

Being taught to follow correct processes and standards gives IRB a very different approach to how we develop, test and sell products into the Land Rover market.

We don’t sell anything we haven’t tested ourselves – or anything we wouldn’t use on our own vehicles.

IRB Developments have featured in several magazines such as Auto Express and Land Rover Monthly as well as the ‘Haynes Land Rover Defender Modifying Manual’ written by Lindsay Porter.

We covered sections in the Haynes Manual on ‘Breathing Improvements’, the benefits of upgrading to a bigger intercooler, EGR valve and performance exhaust pipes. We also covered the section on ‘Turbocharging Options’, at the time of the manual being written IRB were the only company offering turbo upgrades for a full range of Land Rover Defender engines.

We can supply and fit a variable vane turbocharger for the 200TDi engine, variable vane for 300TDi,  stage 1, 2 and 3 turbos for the TD5.

These are just some of the upgrades we covered in the Haynes manual, we certainly recommend buying the manual to get the most of of your Land Rover Defender, or you can contact us to arrange an appointment to have your pride and joy modified at our workshop.
